The Artist: Nancy Murphy
Nancy Murphy’s first interest was in drawing and watercolour which
she studied at Glasgow School of Art in Scotland.
After immigrating to Canada in 1946 as a war bride, she studied
metalwork at Toronto Central Tech under renowned Canadian metal
craftsman Andrew Fussell. She also learned enameling on copper at
Instituto Allende in San Miguel, Mexico. Nancy demonstrated at the
Canadian National Exhibition and taught metalwork classes at
Georgetown High School. One of her alternative passions was
photography for which she has several certificates and numerous
awards.
Once retired, she focused her attention on painting in acrylics and
quickly showed a fondness to oils. She has attended many classes and
conventions to learn and develop her style and technique. All her
work now is specifically in oils. In 2006 at the Heart of Ohio Tole
Convention, she won Best in Show in the non-professional landscape
category.
In
2007 she won first and second place in two out of three professional
categories. She is a member of the St. Catharines Art Association
and has had the opportunity to display her work at their events.
She recently had shows at the Kennedy Gallery in St. Catharines and
the Niagara Pumphouse Visual Arts Centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Her paintings cover a wide spectrum from landscapes, portraits to
flowers and animals. |
