Kimberly Makkreel

A self-taught artist, Kimberly has always loved drawing and has been doing so for as long as she can remember.  A love for animals and a youthful craze for horses had her spending hours drawing as a child.  Growing up near Seattle, Washington, in high school she was allowed to leave and attend a private art school with a wonderful teacher who helped her further her techniques and skill.  After graduation she attended The Art Institute of Seattle for Graphic Design.  Kimberly married and moved to Ontario, Canada in 1988 where she continued her art on a personal basis by attending acrylic and watercolour classes while raising a family and running a business with her husband, Michael.  Now, as the kids are getting older, 8 and 11, Kimberly enjoys being able to spend more time and effort on her art and pursing her dreams of doing it full-time.  While she has worked in many media, her favourite and the one she always goes back to is drawing, whether it be a simple sketch or a more detailed rendering. What Kimberly enjoy most is the way lights and darks work within a drawing.  Her subject matter is usually animals, as she loves their honesty of expression.  What better way to show our necessity to care for this wonderful place we have been given than to show its perfect beauty in the innocent eyes of an animal through art.
